Default Locating Hogs?

Hey everyone....I am new to the site and been looking around, and trying to make myself at home here. I been out of the hunting scene for about 5 years now with having babies and buying houses and stuff. I am back in it full swing this year and adding things to my list of game I am hunting this year (I have always been just a squirrel and duck hunter) I havevery little deer hunting experience and no hog hunting (well except coming across them while squirrel hunting).

Well due to getting a late startthis year I am forced to hunt public land. I havesome really nice corp land around the lake here and have seen hogs in this area countless times in the past. EveryoneI talk to say they are worse than ever down there as well. Now I have been out 5 times squirrel hunting and havn't seen a hogyet. I have seen a few signs though.I amhunting about a half mile from the lake/north side of the river.

Iplan to do some scouting/squirrel hunting closer to the water this weekend. In my weird way of thinking I should find the hogs there. Where the river enters the lake there are a ton of small pond like bodies of water, and got a good hunch they are holding up in that area due to it is still fairly warm in this area. Am I on the right track?

Ever sinceI had a 200 lbs hog walk up on me out there I carry a side arm (which is allowed due to the bad hog problem down there) so ifI do stumble across something while squirrel hunting I may get lucky.

Sorry about being long winded folks. I am just really stoked about getting a chance to get back in the woods again, and want to get my duck in a row. Thanks!

Sorry for the bad spelling.... At work and the spell check dosen't work.....lol

I'd say you are on the right track. Get up in the headwaters of that lake with your waders on and take a look around. If you have seen hogs in that area before, then you know what to look for (like a rototiller has been through). All the hogs I've taken on my property this year were in swampy creek beds or the back of a beaver pond.

Thanks bud, I did head on down that way this weekend. I realized i was definitely on the right track of locating them. Never haveI seen so many signs of them in a patch of woods. There was a hill top right off a creak that had about an acre that was rooted. I didn't see one, but that's why we call it hunting right?....lol
