Default Hogs w/ Slugs

ok i know absolutly nothing about slugs. And i've been checking out some of these public lands around texas and most of them require shotguns only. Im looking to hunt some hogs so would i just use some slugs. I have 2 12 gauges and just need to know everything about hogs and slugs.
Thanks Guys

I have killed 3 hogs this year so far with my 20 guage, I have a smooth bore so I use sabot rounds, winchester and remington make them. They work real well, they do some damage on hogs.

I have never gotten acceptable accuracy with slugs and always use buckshot. I have killed many deer and several hogs with 00 buck, and inside 50 yards, it is hard to beat.

I have seen 2" accuracy at 100 yards with a rifled barrel slug gun. It might be worth your while to look into buying one to swap out with your existing barrel on your shotgun. If you can find a barrel with a cantilever scope mount it would allow the scope to be removed with the barrel. Here's one website with a couple examples. http://www.hastingsbarrels.com/barrels.html Others can be found for cheaper I'm sure. Just something to think about to give you the best accuracy potential.

In states where rifles are not allowed, slug barrels are a decent investment, but for an occasional hog hunt on public land in Texas, it is a waste of money. I have gotten 2-3" accuacy out of rifled slugs in a smooth bore barrel.

Bob, most of the guy's on here know me for Running Hog Dog's for 50+yrs and have cut many hogthroat's, but over the years have killed them with Handguns, .22 Rifles, Shot Gun 00,Shotgun Slugs, Shotgun Sabot's and numerous Rifle calibers.

You are asking about shotguns........Well, down here in the South, many hunters still use 00 andFoster styleSlugs which I also used in the early years. In the later yearswhen I decided to stalk for them, I switched to Winchester BRI's and Hornady Sabots. I bought a HastingsFully Rifled Barrel for my FN BRN A-5 12ga.

For 30+yrs I had my own 200yd range here on my place untill the county made me stop shootting cause of the close by subdivisions.[:'(]Well, I could bust burned out flood light bulbs at 125+ yds with rifle sights on the Hastings barrel andWinchester BRI's.....

Less than or up to 50 yards a nice 3" 12 gauge shell with 00 buck lays them out quick. And for killing a herd of those little 12 to 14 inch babies nothing beats my Benelli with 5 rounds in it. Depending on the range you shoot will depend on whether you even need a slug. In Florida we tend to take long shots like around 20 to 30 FEET. Buckshot works great and any good placement with a slug and they wont walk 3 feet.

It will handle Light Loads & Heavy Loads 2-3/4"ONLY!......Itcame with 28" ModifiedVent Ribbed Barrel which I have used many times for Quail and I also purchaseda 30"Full Plain barrel for Ducks and as you can see on the photo, a Hastings Full Rifled barrel for Hogs & Deer.........Jeff, the reason it looks good is because I also have many other shotguns that I also use!

Whenmy present wife (of 40yrs) and I were engaged, she bought it asmyXmas gift in 1967 at Sears & Roebuck for $167.00....According to the serial #, it was manufactured in 1965....

Don't get caught! Hate to see you lose a Benelli....
