I have friends that hunt with me on the rivers here in northwest florida. They are using catahoula and black mouth cur dogs as bay dogs due to their speed , great nose, and ability to take a beating if it comes down to it. Their catch dogs are jeep and carver pit bulls. I have been with them on a few hog "catch and release" trips, and it was awesome to see these dogs work! They all work as a team and get along great with one another while hunting. Once in the dog boxes and back home they have to be seperated due to their inability to get along. Seems a little wierd that they dont get along with one another unless they are hunting, but I guess thats the difference between good hunting dogs and plain-jane dogs. I too am getting into dog hunting for hogs, and my choice of catch dogs are the jeep bloodline bull dogs. I'm using female dogs because they aren't territorial such as the males, and this is the reason they DO get along together. I'll be teaching these dogs on a "trial-and-error" basis because I've never done it before. Just make certain that you get some high quality protective gear for your dogs cause his prey packs a mouthful of knives! Good luck in your search, and to your hunting as well!
