Hey everyone,
I am going hog hunting here in a few days but I have SO many questions.,,, I have literally spent Hours and Hours researching everything I can on the web from shot placement to distance, tracking etc.
However, I would love some first hand knowledge.
I have been hunting deer up in Michigan for Years (compund and rifle ... no crossbows)but now I am down in FL and the deer here just seem absolutely PUNY and I can see trying to shoot one. Needless to say I found a state park near me that actually allows crossbows for Hogs and am going out this weekend.
I dont have any specific questions just one broad question. I have always loved stalking deer etc and dont wanna change that (dont like baiting n waiting) but love walking into the brush.
If someone could give me some tips to be successful in this route with a crossbow and just doing the walk and wait persay looking for hogsI would appreciate it.
For first things first...........Snake Boots a must for stalking hogs in FL. For seconds, if you have never stalked hogs before, go with an experience hog hunter the first couple of times and learn from him.
It's easy for posting on different ways of stalking hogs and different to go and actually do it.....To learn how to castrate, you have to cut alot of nutts. In other words, don't learn it from books or advice, have someone actually show you. That's my Opinion anyway.

I agree 100% Rebel but unfortunately I have been down here for a bit and it seems everyone I meet doesn't hunt here its freakin weird... un in MI damn near everyone hunts.
So kinda been relying on peoples type rather than actual exp in the field. I have come across a LOT of deer down here and lots of turkey but have only seen a handful of boars (of course not when hunting). I watch um cross the road in a few places regularily on SR 70 out near Myakka but I dont have permission on peoples land to hunt.
So needless to say I have kinda just threw in the towel and been trying to figure out what I can get from here and multiple other places. I have met one person that has two curs one bay and one that can bay and catch however he is lucky to get the wife to let him go out once every 6 mons.
Just figured any advice in my situation would be well appreciated, wether it be slightly for not anyways.
That was the main thing I was asking about. And kinda hoped to hear as well...The danger Factor in Hog Hunting ....Especially alone or without the dogs.
Oh and I did check weapons allowed as well in fact I called the division of forestr to double check they said crossbows were legal in the park.
This is what I found anyways:
Regulations Unique to the Small Game Season - In addition to
these regulations, all General Regulations shall apply. The
possession of guns other than shotguns, crossbows and
longbows (including compound and recurve bows) is
prohibited.
Thanks for your help. And concern I do appreciate it

Yeah thats where I got the info. I have it printed out in front of me. Got it yesterday.... Is there something I am missing... If so please let me know maybe I am looking over something but I read it three time and called just because I want any future hunts I do to be absolutely legal last thing I need is a court appearance and a hefty fine.

Hogs & Grey Squirrels, No Deer! Noshoulder height or bag limit on Hogs. Need Hunting license and Management Area Stamp.....
Thats what I thought as well. Don't worry I am not argueing at all. You,.. I am positive have much more exp. than I do. In fact I will probably just take your advice and wait for a person to come with,Only here for advice and to maybe meet some nice fellow hunters
Oh, and yes I saw that link in another of your posts... very helpful. I appreciate your responces
Oh and I did go out and get a Hunting permit, and WMA Stamp as well
I bred and ran Hog Dogs in FL for 45+ yrs and then went to deer hunting after my bones could not take the running anymore! I have been researching Cross Bows for over a year, but that's another story.
