~ What factors contribute to big tusks on boars ?

Hello all,

I have noticed lookinh through other hunters pics of hog kills, that SIZE of the boar does not seem to mean that they will have decent cutters.

I seen big hogs withsmall cutters, and seen much smaller boars with big cutters. Some largish 200+ boars with almost no cutters.

Are genetic strains across various hog lines contributing here ? Would certain genetics play a roll in larger teeth on certain boars even in youth as they age ?

Could it be the breeding out of the European boar genes among the ferals that at play here ?

My gues would be the wilder the bloodline the bigger the tusk, to a point. I think they wear out too.

Also a lot depends on what sort of terrian they are in, rocky terrain the cutters will wear down real quick when they are rooting around.
Soft sandy soil wont wear the cutters near as much.

Age seems to be the factor in the diameter of tusks. Terrain and fighting determines the length. An oldbarrow that isn't out fighting for the sows usually has the most matched unbroken sets of choppers. Occaisonally we get one with broken off whetters that have allowed the cutters to grow unworn into a big circle.

I killed a small Boar with some real nice cutters on him.

We killed a Sow that had nice Cutters,if you didn't know better you would say it was a Boar.
