I shot a 600 plus hog with a .270 w/ core lokt ammo. went strait through
I would use the 270 again but not with the corelokt ammo

Have had success with 30-06 and a 165gr corelokt, also with 180gr sierra gameking. The 180gr drops em fast, though I'm kind of partial to the remingtons. I always carry my 45 colt with 250gr home cast bullets and a load of IMR Trailboss behind it .

All I've shot hogs with is 12ga slugs and a 25-06. The 25-06 drops them in their tracks every time. A buddy and I shot a charging boar once with 12ga slugs 6 simes before he stopped! That was pretty intense.

Caliber not as important as bullet. Both ends of the spectrum. .223 FMJ in the ear hole puts them down in their tracks. 400 grn. hard cast .45-70 punches clean through the armor, both sides. Excellent choice and my personal favorite. I've seen large boar shields stop .270 ballistic tips like they were BBs many times. Most soft points will come apartat impact on leg bones or ribs after they have mushroomed going through the shield, possibly deflecting and not doing sufficient damage to put the hog down. We have one old 6mm shooting those long round nosed bulletsthat penetrates everytime. We have recovered lots of bullets for comparison, remarkably even one .458 stopped by a big hog. Core-locks, bonded, hard-casts, solids, and penetrators are our favorites.
