Default u think this trap would work?

I built a hog trap this weekend where i made a cirlce out of t-post that's about 20ft. in diameter. Then i put cattle panels on the outside and added the trap door. The entire cage is very strong and secure but you think this is enough to keep them in if i check it the next day? I think the only way theycould get out would be to dig under it.

I would have put the panels on the inside of the t-posts, but sounds like it should work....does for us.

best of luck

I use a similiar set-up, I have an old hay ring for cattle, I tied hog wire around it and used a one way trap door. I use t-posts to hold it down and they haven't dug out yet. It only works for a short time though, they seem to figure out it is a trap after a while. If you take the door off and continue to bait it for a few weeks they will start to come back in.

I have heard that if theres no floor they will dig out. In mississippi,I had a hell of a time with them wading in and eating my beavers last year.I plan to go back in feb and set up a bunch of snares.

We have ours built from stock panels also. We've built a couple different types and finally, after trial & error, we kept the same design but made the traps stronger. One design is strong enough to take a hard lick and knock the hog nearly unconious. They other, similar to what you have built, is strong enough to hold them, but it flexes. I don't have any pics of the really sturdy trap, but here's a couple of the one similar to yours.(I think)

A view from above. Also we lined the inside with a smaller mesh wire and cyclone fencing to keep those little (crockpot size) piggies inside. Yes, they can fit thru the holes in the panels. We also , used the surrounding trees for support.

Here's a pic of the same trap with 5 60-75 pounders in it. 3 sows & 2 boars.

What you think is strong enough,...isn't! We watched a sow about 150lbs walk right through our other stock panel trap like it wasn't there. She broke several welds on it. Now we have it triple-layered and haven't had a problem since...............YET!

What do you do with them after you have them trapped? shoot them in the cage?

We do sometimes if we need the meat. We trap an obscene amount of hogs here, especially in the winter. We load them into a homemade trailer andtake them to a small holding pen.Made of heavy pipe and panels, no t-posts.

When we have enough in there (a few hundred) we sell em to a meat buyer.

best of luck

Holding pen.....

Be warned that large hogs can jump a cattle panel. They can also jump out of a trailerif itdoesn't have some sort of top.

They can also break things you'd never imagine breaking.
