Default AR-15 VS. Mini 14

Which one do you Favor?

I have both a Ruger Mini 14(made in 1979) and a Bushmaster XM-15E2 with a 16 inch barrel with the mini y comp pinned on with the fixed collapsed stock and I have to say I lean towards the Ruger. I paid about a third of the price of the bushmaster for the ruger. I can get tighter groups with the ruger and doesn't feel like a toy but thats how I feel. The only problem I had with the Ruger was feeding problems but that was caused but the cheap mags I bought. I have only had one jam(yesturday) with the AR cause the shell casing somehow didn't feed properly and became lodged above the bolt.

unless you've had extensive work done on the mini, the AR should outshoot it substansialy, I have 4 AR's and 2 mini's, the mini's both have about 1700.00 invested in them and only one of them will shoot with any of the box stock AR's, and won't begin to rival the groups from my varminter. the barrels on the mini's are top dollar custom jobs. better have your AR looked about.

IMO, the Mini 14 doesn't even hold a candle in any regard versus a decent AR. Even for price, Mini's aren't that much cheaper than an AR anymore.

Spikehorn - you must have gotten an exceptionally good Ruger Mini 14 and an exceptionally poor AR. Normally, they are not even close. I would get rid of the collapsible stock and the Y-comp - the regular full size stock will give you a much better cheek weld. If you have to have an adjustable buttstock, there is a company in Boulder, Colorado called Magpul that makes an excellent one. The Y comp will blow your ear drums out - and, even with ear protection, is an obnoxious hazard on the range. Have a regular flash suppressor installed. And good luck to you. Roskoe.

Mini-14 isn't bad for a shotgun j/k

I'll take an AR anyday over the mini.

Anyone can put together an exceptional AR for $500-700 if you know where to get the upper and lowers, and get a hell of a lot better accuracy. Granted it probably won't have the fancy fluited barrel and all the other doodads that the expensive ones come with, but it will still outshoot any mini. Especially if you handload.
