If you had to choose...
One handgun, for whitetail hunting, what would it be?
I'm thinking a black powder gun, but I'd like suggestions, along with reason, if you please. Thanks!

Caliber too please! I have never had a handgun, only fired a few at the range. I guess deer hunting is the primary objective, fun at the range is secondary.
I don't have any particular preference for maunfacturer, pistol or revolver ... even a single shot.

I don't have a Redhawk .44 Mag, but if I had only one choice for handgunning deer, that would be it.

Ruger Super Redhawk in 44 Mag. is THE hunting pistol.
For the 2nd part of your question - I would stay away from black powder pistols, especially the cap and ball revolvers. The is no black powder pistol that I am aware of that I would even remotely consider for hunting.
They are a whole lot of fun to shoot but should not be considered for hunting.

Well I'll go way out on a limb and say a super blackhawk hunter in 44 mag.
