best scope for a .22 rifle

i posted this in the small game forum, not enough attention i guess. so i will ask here.

I have a marlin 981t .22 rifle, it shoots great for me. I have a 3x9x40 tasco scope on it that i bought from wal-mart. this scope works well (good groups), but it does not gather light adequately.

What would be the best scope made for a .22 that would work very well in low light situations?

I would like a 40 mm, but a 32 mm scope could work as well i guess. Also, is it best for the scope to have a 50 yard Parallax Setting or a 100 yard Parallax Setting?

Finally, is the 3x9 magnification a bit excessive for a .22 LR?

the best scope for a 22 is the same scope that is the best for a centerfire.........Use whatever scope fits your needs the best, the guys who i shoot smallbore matches with have scopes ranging from 20 bucks on up some of them even have leupold vx III's and zeiss scopes on their 22's. just because its a 22 dont be bashful when choosing a scope, My match 22 rifle i had a cheapo 3-9x32 simmons deerfield on it worked ok. We have a similar problem for me it was on over cast days it just didnt seem to collect enough light for my liking. It now has a bushnell banner 4-12x40mm scope and it gets plenty of light even at dusk on a overcast day. hope this helps you a bit.

Hello mr bowhunt/fish. take a look at the Sightron S1. They make a rimfire....3x9x32mm and a 3x9x40mm....both are under 130 in Midway. I've got their 4x16 on my 220 swift and I'm real happy with it. The rimfire's paralax is set at 50 yards and the regular is set at 100. Forever lifetime warranty. I think the 3x9 is not too much scope for a 22 and would think the 3x9x40 would have better low light characterists than the 32mm. With the new hyper velosity ammo, the 22 is a 100 yard rifle. there is a good article that I saw and I cant remember if it was in the new field and stream or outdoor life magazine. It was one or the other but the article lists about 7 different good .22 scopes, most of them were fixed power.

Look at the Simmons .22 Mag. I would chose the 3X9 w/AO as it is considerably clearer then the one's without it. I have one and it's been awesome! JDinAB
