Savage model 111fcxp3 7mm Rem Mag 3-9x40_ 160 gr federal premium accubond
Marlin 336a 3-9x40 30-30 170 gr Federal fusion
The first centerfire for my 11 year old was a remy youth model 7 in 7mm-08. Then I got myself a tikka t-3 in 7 mag. After shooting this gun I quickly traded his in for another tikka t-3 in 7mm-08. It is a much nicer gun, light, great trigger, smooth action plus many other features. I would pick the tikka again. He loves it.
As noted above, sort of depends on your son, his characteristics as to what he can handle, etc. How does he handle recoil, etc. I'd try to stay away from the magnums.
Take a look at rifles chambered to the 7x57, 270Win., 280Rem., or 308Win. Any of these will handle any mule deer or elk out to reasonable ranges.
You haven't provided too much information, but I would say go for the .300. Particularly with some of the "reduced recoil" ammunition on the market recoil should not be a problem, and your son will never outgrow it.
Good luck.

My first rifle was a 30'06 springfield.....still works, still kills just like the energizer bunny. I have no use for any magnum except the 7 mag. The '06 has been going for over 100 years.....still going. Last count, I own 4 of them....2 sakos, 1 steyr and a Parker Hale......cool rifles. Because of advancing age, I hunt deer with my 7x57 now....low recoil....kind of a classic thing. Regards, Rick
of the three choices you posted (7RemMag, 300 mag, 7mmwsm), I'd go with the 300 WinMag..... like was said earlier, you can load it up with reduced recoil cartridges (believe Remington loads them for the 300). Plus, it'll last him until he's an old man and will do him for pretty much anything he wants to hunt.
That being said... nothing wrong with your other two listings or even a 7mm-08, 308, or 30/06 if you opt out of the magnum range.
