I absoluely agree with Vap on this one. Its a fine, fine caliber. Had it came out first, we may have never seen the 270. Not to say that the 270 is not a great cartridge but the 280 has more available bullets and a wider range of bullet weights. For a short time Remington also named it the 7MM-06. They dropped all reference to the 7MM because people confused the ammo with the 7MM Remington Mag. Mant blew up rifles buy firing 280 shells in the 7 Mag. The cases would rupture.
KonaBoy what gun do you have thats stamped 7mm Rem Express? I have an early model 4 that is stamped that way, might be worth saving, also if you have any ammo that is marked that way I sure would'nt shoot them up. I know several collectors thats looking for just the brass let alone the whole round.

MY PRIMARY DEER RIG IS A REMINGTON 700 BDL STAMPED 7MM EXPRESS. I LOVE THE CALIBER (SAME AS 280) AND IF YOU CHECK A BALLISTICS TABLE FOR THE 140 GR CARTRIDGE, THE 280 WILL GO NECK AND NECK WITH A 7MAG.

I got to go along with JamesB on this one. If the 280Rem./7mm Express Rem. had been
developed first there would be no need for the 270Win. In fact, if it were loaded up to
similar pressures by the factories there would be very little, if any, advantage in the
7mmRem.Mag. Heck, we could even do away with the old 30-06 (heresy). The 280Rem.
is that good! Dang shame what Remington marketing folk did to this cartridge. It deserves much broader acceptance/usage. It is truly an all-around cartridge for North
American hunting. I just wish they'd bring out a good factory loaded varmint round for it.
