Population and terrian. Most areas that are shotgun only are either heavily populated and/or relatively flat land.

Popeye is right ,where I live there is a road every mile ,some times every 1/2 mile and the land is flat .
With houses all along the roads .
Small wood lots .
To many house wives would get shot if we could use rifles here in OHIO

Good question.....and the fun part is that most of these areas allow centerfire rifles the rest of the year for coyote and fox hunting.....go figure!!!

Iowa's the same. Shotguns, muzzleloaders and handguns shooting straight-walled cartridges only for deer. But we can shoot coyote, groundhog, and crows with CF rifles.

But I think it's for the reasons stated above. It seems like every year we have one idiot put a shotgun slug through somebodys siding, but it's usually gone so far it doesn't have much left after it penetrates the exterior walls, and I've never heard of anyone getting hurt. So the no-rifle laws, like so many other laws, punish the many careful and safe hunters for the negligence of a few morons who'd shoot a hole in someones house no matter what gun they had, because you can't ban stupid people.

I think if you hit a house while hunting with a rifle you should forced to hunt with a sling shot for the next two years.

no you should be shot with a slingshot for the next 2 years... stupidity should hurt, we wouldn't see so much of it if it did...
