Default Gun Safe Question....

I have a gun safe that measures 30x25 inches and weights 750lbs completely empty. It is sitting on my living room floor which has 2x10 joist 16 inches apart. Assuming that with guns and ammo weighting 400 pounds, the loaded weight of the safe being 1150lbs. Is this too much for my floor to support? Thanks for any help you can offer.

How's the flooring? Is the floor sagging alittle under the safe?
If it is, place 2x6's 4" wider than your safe across floor joists under the safe.
Anything heavier and you are going to have to cut the flooring and pour a concrete base
if it is possible. Your safe should be anchored to something.

Mine is 54x30x72 and weighs 1300 empty and my house has 2x8x16 under it , I did however set mine over the center beam. crawl under your house and hold a straight-edge on the joists and see if they're bowed any, if so double them up where your safe sets

You should not have any problems as long as it is sitting next to a load bearing wall. I wouldn't put it out in the center of the floor w/o extra support but against a wall you should not have any problems at all.

That is a pretty good post..and I am faced with the same problem...The one room I would like to put one in does not have a load bearing wall ..i may opt for a 260-300 lb safe instead..Floor joists are 2x10 and 16oc as well.

does it have a foundation old elk? if so just set it against the wall crossways of the floor joists, shouldn't be a problem then.
