I personally like the Ruger 77 Mk II better than the vanguard but it is ok. The .223 is a very good varmint caliber with a ton of cheap ammo and a wide variety of bullets weights and manufacturers. Ammo is cheaper than a 22-250 or 220 swift.

The .223 is a great caliber. The Vangaurds seem like nice rifles, but I've never had the opportunity to shoot one. I've shoot a Browning and a Winchester, and have also shot guns from Remington, Ruger, Howa, and Tikka. If the barrels are floated correctly, they will all shoot good. The Howa .223 I shot was not floated correctly and the groups showed. Take a dollar bill, and see how far down you can run the dollar bill between the stock and the barrel. If it makes it to the recoil lug, it will probably get the job done.

I've owned six guns in .223.....Sako, Winchester, Remington, and Mini Mauser.....all were excellent shooters.....I'd have no hesitation to buy the Howa.....Weatherby...

The original vanguard rifle was designed off the Sako. The vanguards are made by Howa,or use to be before howa went out on its own. A real good 223 is a mini-mauser action sold by nu;mrich arms and charles daly. They are made by zastava in yugoslavika, and are of top quality, and shoot great. I have 3 of them. vangunsmith

You will do fine with the Vanguard. Good quality with an adjustable trigger. Also, if the gun is new it will come with a 1.5" 3 shot accuracy guarnatee. Nothing fancy but a good solid rifle.
