Default Savage Model 16

I just resently purchased a Model 64FXP .22 from Savage, but I am now planning ahead for my next rifle purchase, maybe this summer.

I was hoping to go out to longer ranges, and have heard very good things about the 204. Ruger.

So I looked and found the Model 16FXP3 By Savage as well. It seems like a good deal, does anyone here have any thoughts?

I have one in .243, great coyote gun shot a doe with it this year to! The actions not as smooth as my other guns, seems to have a rough finish also, its pillar bedded and free floating, which is probably one of the reasons it shoots so good! If you ask me its deffinetly worth the money, I'm glad I bought one

Bought a model 16 in 270 wsm back in December. First thing I did was remove the Simmons scope and cheap rings/bases. Replaced it with a Bushnell Elite 3200 mounted in Leupold rings and bases. So far I am very impressed with the rifle and the scope for that matter! Put about 40 rounds through it so far and it is grouping around 1". The accu trigger is an excellent factory trigger...although it does take some getting used to. I think if I can find the right load it will definately be a sub moa rifle.

My only complaint is that the synthetic stock is a little too flimsy for my tastes. I will probably replace it in a couple of years with a laminate or a better quality synthetic. It is definately a rifle I plan to keep.

I was thinking of getting it in .204 Ruger for a target shooting type rifle. Anybody have thoughts on that?

The one downside I see is the price of .204, the lowest I have seen is 59.9 cents/round.

Have you considered the .223?

I have, and I hear the .204 and .223 act very much the same out to 300 yards.

Okay, I have settled on the .223 unless the price of .204 ammo goes down by this summer. My next question is about the internal box mag, that will be a new one for me.

How different is it from a removable clip??

Am I right in thinking that it'll be just like loading a clip, but through the breech?
