Well, my father has a 16 gauge remington model 1100 shotgun, which has really seen limited use.
It'll get shot perhaps 100 times at the very most a year, and stays in near pristine condition. However, recently I've noticed that it has stopped ejecting spent shells. It'll shoot the round in the chamber, and will not eject the shell. I went ahead and cleaned down the interior, put a drop of oil in, worked it for awhile, and cleaned it out, and got the very same thing. It operates real smooth, I can't imagine any dirt or anything has gotten into it.
I wanted to ask on here to see if there might be any simple solutions to this before I go ahead and disassemble the entire thing to try and clean it up.

RE: Jammed shells in Rem. 1100
Did you clean off the outside of the mag. tube ,to get all the carbon off ? I use a scotch brite pad and WD-40 them wipe it ALL off ,leave the tube dry .
Is the O-ring ok ?
Is the gas port(s) clean ? I use a pipe cleaner or toothpick
Take the stock off and clean the return spring off and LIGHTLY oil it .
Make sure the chamber did not get rusty , if so polish the chamber.
Just a few things to try

Replacing the o-ring is an inexpensive fix, but it is a biggie in functioning. When my 1100, which I use for skeet, stops ejecting the light target loads, I just replace the o-ring and am back in business.
Could be what Dukebh40 said. It's called PORT PRESSURE. Shooting to lite of a load.
Check gas system--clogged ports or port, dirty parts, or spring or O-RINGS.
I have a J.C. Higgings{HIGH STANDARD} which the ejectors need replacing{worn},sometimes it won't
eject.I orderd them from NUMRICH ARMS, but have not installed them yet.BROWNELLS,has them also!

what kind of shells are you shooting? Are they reloads? Is it not ejecting or extracting for some eople get the termenology wrong? LIGHTLY oil with wd40 yoour mag tube, replace your "o" ring as guys have stated, and check your gas prt hole,as stated, and has the gun ever beeb taken apart? If so check your return springs are set the right way in the cup piston the end of them sets in,they can be put in backwords or sometimes they pop out of the plunger. let us know how its going vangu;nsmith
I had been shooting just 7 1/2 game shot out of it, although I've watched it jam with 00 buckshot. Tomorrow I'm gonna go ahead and try to clean out the chamber real well and check on the O ring, that's beginning to sound like a possible culprit, thanks for all the replies.
I would recomend start with the o-ring cost around $5-$10 bucks ,make sure reciever is good and clean, another thing i noticed also with some shotguns they wont ejected cheap shells like the cheap federals or even the cheap remingtons the $3 dollar a box target loads.
make sure the internal and external parts are spotless. you also might want to use some pipe cleaners in the gas tube. maybe is is the ammunition you are using to. try and find a cleaner burning ammunition and use it.
