Default 7 mm Mag vs. 300 Win Mag

I can't decide between the two, I was set on getting a 300 for my encore but i found a deal for a 7 mm that i might not be able to pass up. In everybody's opinion which is better especially for long distance and bigger game like elk and moose

Either would do nicely. If you like shooting heavy bullets, go with the 300, you think you need 140-160gr, go with the 7mm.

The elk or moose won't know the difference.

If your using 200 grain bullets in the 300 win mag it should be a little more potent but little if any difference between the 160 grain vs 180 grain.

both are legends and both would kill elk no argument. but i would prefer the .300 over the 7mm. good luck.

If recoil is a consideration, you might want to look at this link to compare the two rifles. [link]http://www.chuckhawks.com/recoil_table.htm[/link]

I aagree with Big Country.
With the super premium bullets on the market nowadays, both calibers
would be suitable for Elk or Moose.

I had the same debate and bought the 7 mag because of less recoil. I've had it 12 years and had great success from bull elk to javelina in Arizona.

The 7mm will do most anything the 300 will with less recoil. Since you can get a super deal on the 7mm go for it.I think you will be more then satisfied with either you choose.

I use a 7mmrem mag and one of my pards uses a 300 win both have performed excellent from deer to moose, so I agree upto moose they are pretty much a wash. The 300 will pull away if you want to use the bigger lead when chasing big bears or similar but since most use 180gr/308 or 160gr/.284 you or game will never know the difference so buy which ever you desire!
