Default Who is into marlin leverguns?

I'm hoping to get some advice on the newer ballard rifling that marlin went to after the micro-groove. I posted a thread the other day called Marling 1895CB and haven't gotten much response... Someone out there has to be a marlin levergun afficianado who can tell me if the rifling in my new marlin 1895 45-70 is the way its supposed to be. I've never seen the grooves between the lands so rough on a rifle barrel before. HELP!

Although I cant help you directly, do a google search on malin leverguns, there is a forum out there that is dedicated to just what you have. I found it when I was searching for info on the .444 marlin caliber. Lots of good info over there. I didnt book mark it, however if I find it again, I will post a link.

I have one of their guide guns in 45/70 - it's a good brush gun when we're hunting moose or bear. It's not fun to shoot, recoil and barrel jump (it's ported) are something to take note of.

Mine is the cowboy model with the 26 inch octagonal barrel. I want to hunt with it. I just have never seen rifling that rough before and I'm wondering if there all like that or if the cutter was really dull when they did mine.

I would talk to Marlin .
They may replace the barrel if you complain nicely
They have never done me wrong

Check out the Marlin forum: http://www.marlinowners.com/board/

BTW, have you cleaned the barrel? shot it yet? Try it out. If there's a problem, then
call Marlin.
