Default mossberg rifles

wondering if anybody had any hands on with the new mossberg 100 atr, my nephew is wanting a new rifle in 270, he has looked at the savage lin-up and he said the guy mentioned this gun, not sure of price, but wondered if any of you knew any info, btw his only other guns are a 835 and a ruger 10/22, he has hunted with my rifles in the past, but he wanted to know if i knew anything on the atr, mainly because he likes the 835 so much.

In my opinion I would not own one....just my personal peference though. I would own a Savage gun before a mossberg. A couple of my friends had bad experiences with them....but like i said, just my opinion. I owned a Western Field 30.06 (which is Mossberg) and I traded it off because it was too long of a gun for my stature. Some people like Mossbergs though...

If it's a model 1500, it's probably made by howa. Fine rifle for the price.

A rifle that's in the same price class as the Mossberg is the "new" Stevens 200, which is really a Savage 110 without an AccuTrigger.

Personally,I WOULD NOT get one,I like guns that are tried and true,Remingtons,Savages,Winchesters,Brownings, and the like, but thats me. I saw a new remington 700 called a 700SPS. Good gun, same thing as a 700 except the barrel is matte blued carbon steel, and It has a synthetic stock. A savage is a good choice too.Look at the package series or a 10FCM Sierra or 11F.

To put it bluntly the Mossberg 100 is crap.

A 12 year old could machine a better rifle. The action is incredibly rough, finish is poor, fit is poor. I wouldn't waste my money. I have said before I would rather have a Remington 710 than this rifle.

For about a hundred dollars more you can get the Remington 700 ($379), Howa 1500/ Weatherby vanguard ($388), Winchester 70, Charles Daly mauser ($349), Savage 110. Any of these will serve you much much better than the Mossberg rifle.

Mossberg makes a heck of a shotgun but stay away from this rifle.
