Its hard to go wrong with a 3-9x40 on anything.

What's your price range?

i have 4-12x40Ao simmons prohunter on mine. i thinks its nice scope for hunting. alot of people go for over 16x just so when there punching paper they can see the bullet holes on the target with out using a spotting scope.

which rifle do you have?

if it has a heavy barrel i like the look of 40mm Obj just so the barrel andthe scope dont look the same size.

heres pic of my marlin 917vs

I say don't go bigger than 16X, past that is somewhat ridiculos for a .17HMR. I think 12X would be perfect. Objective size is up to your own preference.

not that I am a big BSA fan, ussually the opposite... But the BSA Sweet 17 was made for that gun.

I have the Bushnell Trophy 6-18 x 40mm and find it works very well for shooting at small targets. I also like to see where I shot on paper without the use of a spotting scope as previously mentioned Anything lower then 12x will not take full benefit of the 17 in my opinion. The end result is that the buyer has to be satisfied.

Whaddya think of the 917?

I was looking at the same gun in 22mag or 17hmr, and was curious of what you thought about it.
