Default Nef Handi Rifle .223 Scope Problem Help!!!

I just bought a Nef Handi Rifle in .223 and want to mount my scope but the rings are to low as there is no clearance for the hammer. I tried see thru mounts but that puts the scope crosshairs at 2 1/4 inches from top of barrel, that wont be to accurate will it? HELP!!!!!!! Thanks Jimmy

There are low, med and high rings from most manufactors and Kiwke( spelling) has more different heights.

Did you try a hammer extention ?
I think my H&R came with 1 .
If not have your gun shop order 1 for you

The hammer extension wont work as the hammer hits the bottom of the scope and wont even get close to the firing position, When I mounted the scope the hammer was in the full cock position. The scope wouldnt mount with the hammer closed so I have removed the scope and tried the see tru mounts but as stated earlier It puts my crosshairs at 2 1/4 inches above the barrel. I will have to see if I can find some medium height mounts. Thanks for your help. Jimmy

You will have to get High rings. I use the Millet windage adjustable high ring sets. They work fine and won.t hurt your accuracy. I have them on all six of mine.

Once you have the scope mounted, if the ring height is still a problem,( ie. you have to lift your cheek off the stock to see through the scope properly), then you should look at comb raising kit. There are a few available that simply slide on to your rifle butt and are adjustable and easily removable. If you are forced to have a high scope mount these will be your best means of maintaining a proper cheek weld short of a new stock.
I own a savage 210 that requires a scope position that would take my cheek right off the stock. After installing a Bear tooth comb kit, which is customizable to 1/8 of an inch, I think my gun mount/sightpicture is better than ever.

Although I don't know this as fact, here are my thoughts. Scope height should only have a negligible affect here.
I see your thought, that the further the distance from the barrel to the line of site,(scope height), the more distorted downrange accuracy would be. This however presupposes a straight line of travel for the bullet. This we know is not true. The bullet travels in a pronounced arc.
This fact will eliminate a great deal of the overall distortion.
More importantly once the scope is mounted and sighted in at your preferred distance with a given bullet it will strike at +/- the same amount at a given distance every time. Once you figure that +/- at the range it will never change.
Does this mean your gun's bullets will hit exactly to the millimeter where the ballistics charts would tell you..no. But given all the variables in shooting, they never do, each gun shoots different . What it does mean is that once you have shot the gun at known distances, and observed where it hits +/- you will never have to worry about the scope height.
Hope this makes sense..

I have a set of Windage adjustable Millett Medium rings on my H&R right now. They work just fine. I don't even use the hammer extension, as it kept falling off anyway.

I use low rings on my NEf, and I have about 1 mm of clearance!!

Try medium rings. They might just do the trick. I've also read of guys taking a file to their hammers. Just a thought...
