Uh, this site is about Airsoft, air pistols/rifles, and starter pistols. You have to remember than most Germans are not permitted to own "real guns", at least as far as handguns are concerned. Hunting rifles and shotguns are highly regulated, and the owner must be a bona fide member of a hunt club.

Aught, I'll have to take your word for it. I'm not that fluent in German.

When it comes to FINE firearms you can't beat the Germans. The Mauser 98 action is one of the best actions ever manufactured and this was created in the 40's. Check out a Heim if you want to drool a bunch. Oh, you better have a big stack of mad money if you want one of these sweet pieces.[:-]

For what it's worth, Heym made rifles for Montgomery Ward's a while back, and every now and then one turns up cheap; I've seen them for under $300 sometimes. Not as pretty as a new Heym, but not $3000, either.

Moose, the Heim I refer to are hand made in Germany not Korea. Check out their web page. You can get a good starter rifle for the kids first year of hunting for around $10,000 and a new Crown double for you starting around $23,000

Sniper, I *own* a Heym rifle made in Germany, and I paid under $300 for it. You can, too, if you look around.

Close, but you're off by about 40 years. The mauser 98 was the last in a series in the mauser evolution that started with the 1891 model, and progressed through the 1893,1894,1895,1896 and finally the 1898 model in the year (you guessed it!) 1898. Just bout every modern bolt action rifle is based on the model 98 in one way or another.
