Default 7x57 w/ 140 gr Nosler Partitons

I have recently acquired a Ruger M77 MKII in 7x57. Looking around for ammo, I have found federal Premimum loads with 140 grain Partitions. Would there be any issue with this bullet opening up at mauser velocities on whitetail deer?

That would be my first choise in that cartridge for deer and blk bear.. You should be very happy with it, and best of all, it has low recoil...

Can't beat that combo if it shoots good in your rifle. That load will take anything in NA.

Federal lists that load with a muzzle velocity of 2660, and with energy (in foot pounds) of 2199 at the muzzle, 1871 at 100 yds, 1583 at 200 yds, 1330 at 300 yds, 1109 at 400 yds ......

Ah a classic load the .276 Rigby Hi Speed. No worrys about the partition, they will open up at very low velocities. The portion ahead of the partition is quite soft. Take up handloadin and you can make that old cartridge sing.

Portage,
With a muzzle velocity of 2660 fps, that sounds like a fairly mild loading.
But since the other folks chimed in with their success stories, I guess its
fast enough to get the job done.
I've found that most commercially offered cartridges are loaded in deference to the old (weaker) Mauser rifles chambered for the 7x57. Rifles such as the M93 & 95. And most of the load data will state whether
or not it's safe in the older Mauser rifles, or to reduce the loads by so many grains if you're loading for a military rifle.
If you reload, you might want to try some 140-gr Barnes TSX bullets. I get 2800+ fps out of my Win M70, 22" bbl, with no excessive pressure.
Another great bullet is Speer's 145-gr Grand Slam at just under 2800 fps.
Both bullets are very accurate in my rifle.
