Default Opinions on a new rifle

Wondering what folks think. I'm planning on buying a Sako 75 Hunter in 300 Win Mag and mounting a Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44 scope. I'm planning on getting the rifle with open sites and the option of the oil finished stock instead of the varnished.

Questions:

1. Is this an appropriate powered scope for this rifle?
2. Will the open sites interfere with scope mounting?
3. Any thoughts on oil finished stocks versus varnished?

#1... absolutely

#2... no they shouldn't. Most ramped sights are plenty far enough foward so not to interfere with scopes.

#3... I much prefer an oil finsihed stock to a varnished stock. IMO a varnished stock just does not look like a hunting rifle. Too shiny for my tastes. Most varnishes tend to "yellow" over time also.

Perfect combination Bonedoc! Oil finished stocks look much richer than the urethane finish.

Has anyone had any experience with touching up a damaged oil finished stock. Can you touch up spots or do you have to refinish the whole thing?
