Default Mailing a gun?

I was told by the manfacturer to mail a gun I purchased back to them for warrenty work. It is a 22 lr bolt action rifle. It is legal for me to mail this USPS or do I need to use UPS or FEDEX. Do I need to be a FFL too mail it. Thanks for you responses. Brian

No ffl required if going to a manufacturer or gunsmith. If your dealing with a dealer and plan on selling it to him or transferring it to someone else than you need a verified copy of their ffl and their signature in Blue Ink or Red Ink on the FFL. Also File copy should be written or stamped on the FFL. EIther way UPS ,USPS or FEdex can ship the firearm

Yes, because it's changing ownership.

You also must have a FFL to receive a firearm.

I would suggest reading ALL of the shipping requirements on the ATF site and also check your state laws. The Federal laws are very specific, the shippers rules are very specific, and some states have additional regulations.

Too serious of an issue to just take what you read on a message board as pure fact.

Well said, kelbro. I'm not a lawyer, and nothing I say should be construed as legal advice.

Kelbro is correct. That is good advise.
I ship guns through UPS without an FFL as long as it's going to a Manfacturer or for repairs. You can not send to a individual. If selling you'll need to send to a FFL dealer and he'll make a transfer.
