Default What do you guys think of Rugers 7mm-08?

The Ruger M77® Mark II Compact 7mm-08. This is going to be strickly a big game hunting rifle.
I know I want a 7mm. I am not sure on the the bulliet ie. Rem Mag, WSM, 08, ext. I am open to sugestions.
Also what do you think of the Ruger M77 Mark II All-Weather 7mm WSM and M77® Mark II Ultra Light 30-06.
Thanks,
Jon

you say big game hunting. but what game and where. if teh shots are under 200 yards teh 08 would be good but as you go further you might want teh STW or RM.

They all use the same .284 Cal bullet, so I think you mean cartridge(case size)!

7mm 08 is a good cartridge IMO but if your planning on humting a lot of elk or moose then I think it might leaving yourself a bit short unless you reload. But for deer, Bear, lopes and maybe the odd bigger game hunt where the longer range may not be required it would be fine.

Like mentioned fill in a few of the blanks so it easier to know what your requirements maybe for this new rifle.

I just had my gun shop order a Ruger M77 Mark II compact stainless with black laminate stock in 7mm08. I plan on using it on whitetails and for elk when I go on all day stalks. I will have a uncle reload 150 gr. swift scirocco's. I use 180 gr. scirocco's in my 300 ultra mag and they work great. I will shoot whitetails out to 350-400 yards and elk only out to 200-250 yards with the 7mm08. Shot location will be more critical with the 7mm08 than the 300 ultra.

I personally don't like the ruger compacts, because they feel to small to me, yeah they are light but if I am gonna get a rifle the 16 1/2 inch barrel feels to short. I would get an ultralight in .270 or .30-06. Ruger needs to make the 7mm08 in a different model besides compact.

I would look at a the compact in person and see if ya like it, as far as the 7mm rule that is a wide spectrup that covers any critter....just depends on what ya wanna spend on ammo.
