Default deer ammunition

I was looking at winchesters ammunition and i see that they have come out with a full metal jacket for a lot of there calibers. Is that round ok to hunt deer with? or is it only for targets or something?

i would not use a fmj for deer hunting. also it is not legal here in oklahoma. i do use fmj ammo for coyote hunting some times just because i use a 308 and it doesnt blow them apart. some times i do use 150gn ballistic silver tips just to mess with my brother because he is the one that does the sewing on the pelt. but i would not recomend using full metal jackets on deer. they will just pass right though with little damage.

All a fullmetal jacket bullet is good for is punching paper and for no pelt damage, it would be one of the poorest bullets for deer...that said, winchester power point is a proven deer killer among other bullets they manufacture and load.

FMJ (full metal jacket) bullets/ammo is for military use, target shooting, or varmint hunting where pelt damage may be a major concern. It is not for use in big game
hunting, and as noted, in many if not most states would be prohibited for deer hunting.
The only exception, normally, would be in the hunting of dangerous game such as
cape buffalo, rhino, or elephant where sure/deep penetration is paramount.
