Default Rem 270, Savage 270 or Mossberg 270 need help???

Hi, I live in Illinois and do all my deer hunting with a bow or shotgun. But my friends do a lot of coyote hunting. I want to join the fun, but I want to buy a rifle that I can use if I ever go deer hunting in a state that allows rifles. So I think the .270 would be good for what I want (both coyote and deer hunting).

What I would like help with is, which would people choose. The Remington 710 270, the Savage 110 270 or the new mossberg 270. Keep in mind I don't want to spend over $400 for everything and that includes scope.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Happy New Year!

I suggest you go with the Savage. They have a good reputation of being quite accurate (and you need that for the yotes as well as the deer). I haven't heard anything good about the Rem 710. I'll also bet in a year or two (maybe sooner) you will want a better quality scope on that Savage than the one that comes on the gun. good luck

Definetly the Savage!!!!!!

The 710 is junk. It has plastic sleves for the bolt to ride in the receiver and the barrel is press fit into the receiver rather than threaded like it should be. The stock has got to be the ugliest thing I have ever seen on a rifle. Cutting corners like this only serves to bring down an otherwise good company.

The Mossberg is so terribly made I don't know where to start. The machining looks like it could have been done by a second grader and the metal finish leaves a lot to be desired, the bolt travel feels like it has sand in the receiver. Their shotguns are great but this rifle leaves much to be desired. Even at the under $300 price tag.

With the Savage you can get different barrels for it also.

I would definately stay away from the Remington 710 as the others have said. I shot one back in the summer and it shot decent enough to kill a deer, but it looks and more importantly feels cheap.

As for the Mossberg, I can't comment as I have only seen them in passing at the local WalMart.

Now for the Savage. I just purchased a Model 16(stainless + synthetic stock) Savage in 270 WSM. If you get a Savage make sure you get the accu-trigger. It is by far and away the best factory trigger I have. I am pleased with the look and feel of the gun and I think it will be a good shooter. As was stated in a previous thread, you will definately need/want to upgrade the scope that comes with the Savage.

I cannot emphasize enough how excellent the savages shoot!!! I own 2, and both shot around an inch out of the box!!! As far as the scope, not much to say, they are cheap, but on my 7mm rem mag savage, after 3 boxes of shells, I had to replace the scope mounts because I actually BENT the screws that hold the rings to the gun. Save yourself some headache, and dont get the package. You may want to get just the gun, and get a good set of rings, bases and scope with it. Just my opinion.

The Savage or the Remington ADL Synthetis. Price wise and quality wise they are pretty much equal. However with the accu trigger on the Savage it may be a better deal.
