Default Help me choose a new gun

What would you guys recommend for me to get?

I have a 7MM REM MAG and a Ruger 10/22 for rifles and would like to get a new gun after the holidays.

What is a good caliber I could get a lot of use out of??

I would really like a gun that I can do something with that I already don't have covered. I can plink and shoot squirrels with my 10/22.......and I can shoot anything from a deer to elk with the 7MM.

I was gonna get a Marlin lever action because I like the gun but I doubt it will get much use...........I also saw some new 17 Mach 2's that look sweet but again I don't know if it is strong enough to do much more then my 10/22.........increased range for sure but I don't shoot many squirrels at 150 yards [8D]

Hmmm... the 7mag covers alot of ground. you might get a 243 for coyotes and deer, or a 300mag of some type, depending on if your more likely to hunt elk/moose/ect..(300mag) or varmits(243).

I will most likely never hunt anything too big for the 7MM so I am looking on the lower end. I would like a gun I can get some use out of.

I live in a shotgun state so my 7MM only gets used on trips for deer.

What is a great all around smaller caliber??........not really expensive to shoot but can still reach out and touch something bigger then a groundhog??

A couple of ggod calibers for woodchucks up to deer could be a 25-06, 260 Remington, 7mm-08 Remington. Since you already have a 7mm mag, maybe try the 25-06 or the 260. Both are nice! 25-06 comes in the longer barrels, 260 in shorter barrels.

You might want to consider one of the military calibers. They're good, intermediate calibers with pretty good ballistics. Ammo is generally abundant and cheap, although you might not have as many bullet choices.

The 5.56mm (.223) is available in several different actions. A semi-auto provides good follow-up capability. The Soviet 7.62x39mm is also a good round which is available in different actions, including some bolts and the semi-auto Ruger Ranch rifle. The SKS is a great little rifle, although not very accurate beyond 100 yards or so. It was much more attractive when they were $90 a piece, but now they're closer to $200+, so not as good a buy.

I would look at either a 22-250 or a .243. The .243 would also double as a deer rifle if needed. Both will nail coyotes as far as you can hit them and everything smaller also.
