Default Happy Hoildays And I need a Scope

Thought I was going to ask ya'll to buy me a scope didn't ya.I just wanted to wish all of the regulars Ruger,OEH,EKM,ONE SHOT,Mounting Man,Frizz,Pajack,8mm/06,Idahoe elk,And everybody else( Don't mean to miss anybody) new ones included the very best for these Hoilday seasons.Everyone one here has some valuable info to share ,And I for one think we are lucky to have somewhere like this to get together. Thanks for .being the great bunch you all are.You should all give yourself a pat on the back. Now that I am done sucking up.........LOL I have a question ,I know the scope question never ends around here because the applications never end. Most of you that read my posts know I just got a 7MM STW in a Model 70 Winchester Classic LRH Laredo. Now I am wondering how to top her( Don't be funny) .I plan on using it to punch paper ( against my buddies Rem SSLV Special Run of 2002 in 2002 .308 real nice gun) if it should perform as well as I hope It will prodally end up as my Primary hunting rig.w Weight will not be an issue.I have a stand That I use mostly ,That I will have anywhere from a 50 yd. shot to a 500 yd shot.Shot a fox with "BABY DOLL" my Mod. 70 7 MM Rem. Mag . the other week at 400 yds. .I am thinking somewhare around upwards to 20X to 24X power (variable of course) Objective is still up in the air yet maybe 50 to 56.Price hopefully not more than $1500.Brand ? that is the biggest problem .I have almost always used Leupold but was thinking about something different like Steiner,Kahales,Swarovski,Zeiss,or the new LPS by Leupold.Just wondering what you guy's think will best suit this set up?Also I usually use Leupold One piece base .Do you reccomend anything better?.How about the 30MM tube as opposed to the 1".?All thought will be considered I am planning to make this one a real beast.....Thanks guy's.................Swamp

Thanks for the kind words! My friend that I hunt woodchuck with picked up a Burris 8 X 24 for around $700.00. I like Leupold or Zeiss myself but that is a great scope for the money...

Swampdog, Before you make your decision check out the Unertl. I had the opportunity to shoot a 308Win. with the new Unertl and I was very impressed. Expect to drop some big bucks for this unit. The lens coating are very sharp and the other factor, how the interior tube is coated can make a substantial difference in performance, especially in low light condidtion. Look through the scope from the opposite end. If you can see any portion of the interior tube, look for another manufacturer. As for me, I like the LPS series from Leupold. Best bang for the buck.

Swampdog thanks for the Hoilday wish.Same to you and yours. It's nice being remembered LOL.I bought a couple years ago a Weaver V24 6x24x for my Winchester Coyote 223.It seems to be a good scope so far. I did notice on the higher powers it loses a little clarity.Midsouth has them for 348.00. I bought mine through Natchez shooters supply quite a bit cheaper. www.natchezss.com That might have changed by now I don't know. If I remember right I paid something like 259.00 for it. Weaver has a Lifetime Warranty just like most of the major scope have. For the money I don't think you'll do much better. It might not be a Leupold, Zeiss,Swarovski, but neither is the price.

24 power.... (I remember when 6 was long range....) you are going to be doing some serious stiching. At long ranges you have alot to adjust for besides trajectory. Before sinking megabucks into the glass, I would go some place with lots of brands and compare them. I was surprised myself.
