Default 870 or 50cal

I have 2 guns for deer hunting ones a 12guage 870 with just a bead and a .50 cal muzzel loader with tru-glo sights. Which one is better for deer and which one has a longer range capability as far as reasnoble shots.

Ok, now I get the oldelkhunter comment. This post explains alot. What about your A-Bolt? Or was that made up? Anybody with this question has no room to talk about a guy with 40years experience and maybe dozens of rifles under his belt.

Anyway, to help you, a bead won't get you far. That is a no brainer for anyone who has tried it. When I moved to a shotgun only state, I used my "870 smoothbore". You are limited to 30 yards or less due to the bead takes up the whole vitals at that range. And then after you shot, you question where you hit. This can be remedied with some good tru glo sights and screw in rifled choke, but then you have a good bunch of change into something you could buy yourself a rifled barrel with rifle sights and extend your range to 80yards (maybe 100 when you have some experience under your belt) with alot more confidense.

If I had to take a shot at 100yards I would pick one of my muzzleloaders. All are more accurate and flatter shooter than my sluggun. But again, you need some more experience to find your load and know your limitations.

Maybe you should just stick with the Red Ryder BB gun you suggest to everyone else.
