which caliber should i use for hunting deer most and some black bear in maine? what if i threw moos in the mix?

I have shot all of the big game animal here in Maine with my 308 but would be just as happy with any of the others you have mentioned.

What everybody here said....

I will add that in Alberta, a lot of elk has been shot with .270.. The 270 is indeed the most popular caliber out here in the foothills of the Rockies. That's just my observation..

I didn't know they let you hunt freerange cows in Maine.

Like everybody else has said, any of those calibers will work perfectly for all the animals listed. If it's just a coin-flip, then, I personally would leave out the .280 and 7mm-08, because of cartridge availability and cost. Beyond that, if they're all in the same rifle, *shrug* maybe the '06 because it's just a hair more versatile than the .270, but I'd trust my .270 with my life.

As noted, any of the cartridges you mentioned will do. However, when you throw moose
into the mix I'd have to recommend the 30-06.

None of the animals will know the difference. The 06 has the edge shooting 180gr bullets at moose.
