Default 7mm rem mag or 300 wsm

i am going to buy a sako 75 hunter in either 7mm rem mag or 300 wsm. this gun will not be used for stalking so weight is not a factor. i am wondering which is a better all around cartridge to be mostly used for whitetail, but occasionally would be used for elk sized game. which would have more recoil in the same gun?

go with the 7mm. if it was elk only the 300 would be better but the .300 is just overdoing it for deer. recoil would probably be less in the 7mm. hope it helps.

A Sako 75 is a full sized and weighed gun. The 300WSM will not feel anything other than equal too the 7mag. (Personally all the WSMs I have fired kicked less than most 7s I have owned and MUCH less than one of my 7s, an old M77.)

As good as the old 7 is, I am quickly becoming a fan of the 300WSM. Whats not to like about it? The size and weight gun of a 308 with the power of a 300 Win and a steadily growing supply/offerance of factory ammo. Personally for the 300WSM I would just pick up a couple of boxes of Federal Premium Vital Shok's in 180 Barnes Triple Shock and forget about ever changing bullets again with a 300WSM no matter what the game or distances incurred.

Good luck,
RA

WSM definately. Much more easier to work up a load for, and I can't see kicking anymore or less than a Remmag. I have a hard time getting these WSM's shooting bad. But then again, can't beat a remmag. Both will do what you want them to do.

7mm rem mag is all you will need. I used mine this year to kill 2 antelope and a bull moose. All 1 shot kills. If .30 cal gives you a warm feeling then go for that, pretty sure it wil kill a 150lb deer

my only concern, when considering a decision like this is, if you will be using factory ammo, and in a pinch, it may be harder to find ammo for the short mags, as opposed to the 7mm, if a place sells ammo, then they have a box of some kind of 7 remmag, not neccesarily short mag stuff.

I would go with the .300 WSM you can use it to hunt anything in North America as long as it is in reasonable range. Good luck.

either is enough gun for what your talking about, but if I'm not mistaken, I think less recoil is one of the selling points for the short mags. 7mmrem mag is very common in the stores for ammo.

7mm Rem.Mag. - probably one of the best all around cartridges going if you want a magnum. Plenty enough for whitetails (more than enough really), and a good elk cartridge to boot. Accurate, reliable, and a good selection of factory ammo about any-
where you go.
