Default Rem 788 22-250?

Anyone have one? I saw one at a pawn shop over the weekend that was in good shape. It had a cheap scope on it, but I liked the drop clip on the gun. Price seemed a little high ($300) but he said it was negotiable. I have had 2 700's over the years and really liked them. Is the 788 very comparable with the 700?

Magazine. Clips don't have springs. I have a 788 that my uncle gave me. It was a 243 Win and I shot it when I was a kid. His roof had a leak and water got into the bore and it pitted so after he gave it to me I had it rebarreled as a 7mm-08 Rem. Great little rifle. Nothing fancy but very accurate.

My brother has a 788 in 6mm. He thought he had lost the clip so he decided to buy a new one so he would have two when he found the other one. He found out thet since they don't make the gun anymore, the clips were very high priced. The cheapest we could find was $125. He decided to look a little harder.

www.remington.com/accessories/factory parts/magclips.htm

I guess Remington is wrong, too. They call them clips also.

Yes Remington is wrong and so is Marlin.

Maybe you should tell them. They obviously don't know what they are doing.

Frizzellr is correct. Think of it this way; a CLIP feeds a MAGAZINE, and a MAGAZINE feeds the chamber. A magazine can be detachable (like an M16,AK-47), fixed (like the SKS), internal (like the M1 Garand), external (M16,M14) , blind (Remington M700ADL), hinged (M700BDL),

I suspect that the reason the manufacturers use the incorrect terminology if because the term "clip" has been misused by the ignorant to mean "magazine" for so long that they got tired of getting calls and emails from people asking about why their site doesn't list "clips" for their rifle. To save time and money, they had to cater to the least common denominator and use the incorrect term to describe the parts they offer.

They say a picture's worth 1000 words, so here's a bunch of pictures to clear this issue up:

This is a clip (stripper clip for SKS/AK-47 rifles):

which feeds the (fixed) magazine on this rifle (the SKS):

Magazine (M16/AR-15):

Clip (for the M1 Garand):

Magazine (M700BDL):

A clip loading a mazagine (Steyr Mannlicher M95/30 rifle):

Any questions?

Thank for explaining the term "magazine" to the ignorant, least common denominator of the hunting community. Geez.

I just call it like I see it...

Look at the bright side, you are now educated on the subject and no longer fit into that category!
