Default .270 shortmag? good gun or not?

I'm thinking about getting a new deer rifle. I was thinking maybe a .270 shortmag. my brother told me to get a .300 shormag like he has got, but it's a little to much gun for me. So I was thinking maybe a .270 shortmag. Synthetic stock, stainless steel barrel, Browning A-bolt. How much will this cost me? and do you think it will be a good gun?

I"™m also looking at getting the 270 WSM in a different rifle. I can"™t comment on the Browning A-bolt but can say that I"™ve been reading some good articles on the 270 WSM and it sounds like a very good cartridge. I was also considering the 300 WSM but think it"™s got more recoil then I care to shoot. Good luck...

Take a look at what the old 270 has done in its long history. Add 150- 200 fps and whats not to be good. I have not heard a negative comment from anyone who has had one and used it. I can't speak for the difference in recoil between the 300 WSM and the 270 WSM as I have not fired them side by side but the recoil should be less with the 270 WSM. I don't think either of them has recoil that would bother a healthy shoulder. Which I don't have[:@]

I prefer the 7mm bullet over the .277" bullet so I would split the difference and go with the 7mmwsm.This would also allow you to use heavier bullets if larger game were to be hunted.

I havent heard a bad thing about a 270 WSM yet. This or a 7mm STW or 300 Win Mag will be my next caliber. 2 of my friends have 270 WSM's, one hasnt got a chance to test his out on game yet, but the other shot a 7pt a couple weeks ago and was very pleased. As for the Abolt Stainless Stalker, they're very nice, my dad and uncle both have Abolt SS's in 30-06, and one of my cousins has one in 7mm Rem Mag, and none of them could be happier. I looked at this rifle in this caliber back this summer at Bass Pro Shop and I believe it was around $750-$800

The 270 wsm is a great gun,so is the 300 wsm.If you can shoot a "06 you can shoot a 300 wsm.
I have shot several deer with the 300 wsm works great. When tax refund comes around this year I will have a 270 wsm,Tikka Laminated/stainless.
