Can anyone offer some suggestions for a 6mm for a 5'3" woman? Should I look at youth models? Weight of the rifle is not a big concern, but her being able to handle the length of the rifle is a concern. Thanks for any input!
Check out Rugers M77 compact, laminate stock, stainleess barrel, awsome gun for a kid or woman or even me LOL. it's offered in .243, 260, or 7-08, 223.
PS I wouldnt reccomend the 6 mil just because shells are getting harder and harder to find. The new loads offered by the manufacturers in .243 are giving better balistics than the 6 mil anyhow. check out Remingtons 90 gr. scirroco in .243, awsome balisitcs.
Thanks for the responses. I wasn't aware factory ammo was getting rare for the 6mm. I also thought that the 6mm had better ballistics than the .243. I will take a look at the .243 and .260 in the rifles suggested. I think she can handle a .260, she shot my .30-06 without too much complaint (but with a lot of padding ), but I don't want her to develop a flinch.
hey deer slayer forgot to mention my 10 year old grandson 85# will shoot the 260 i bought for my wife all day long, it has become my new favorite also, in the model 7 rem. its small, light, and the recoil is very minimal, best of luck

6mm shells arn't that hard to find. I shoot a 6mm and never had any trouble finding shells at all. I now reload so that isnt a issue but when i did shoot factory never had any problems getting it. IT DOES HAVE BETTER BALLISTICS THAN A 243WIN. I have a remington Model 7 youth 6mm they arn't produced anymore. The 6mm is a fine caliber and will work great. Check out Ruger they may chamber the gun in the M77 compact im not sure though just guessing? Keep checking im sure someone still chambers the 6mm in a smaller framed gun. I would highly recomend the caliber. Flat and hits plenty hard to drop any whitetail.

When you compare apples to apples the 6 mil has better balistics than the .243 however when you compare apples to oranges the .243 has better ballistics. Compare the remington 90 scirroco in .243 against the 100 gr core lock in 6mm and you'll see the .243 has a slight edge.
Thats what I'm saying, manufacturers are producing some premium bullets for the .243 which has given the same or better ballistics than the 6mm using regular ammo.
Not many gun makers offer the 6 mm anymore, shells are out their just not as common as the .243 nor is their as wide a selection as for the .243. you can go from a 55.gr bullet for the .243 that shoots right at 4000 fps and go all the way up to 105 gr. and these can be found at your local sporting goods store. You have rapid expanders. contolled expanders , inter bonds, hollow points, varmint rounds or heavy game rounds all for the .243. I'd say go with the .243
Did a quick search for any rifles chambered for 6mm Remington, and came up
zip/nada! The 243Win. has pretty well taken over, and the 6mm Rem. appears headed
for obsolescence I think.
Note: Did find where Ruger is still chambering the 6mm in their model 77 Mark II, and two single shot rifles (including a varminter model), but nothing in the way of a carbine or youth model (lightweight, etc.).
