Default 45 Long Colt Question

I own a Marlin 1894 cowboy in 45LC and shoot 300 grain Buffalo Bore ammo. In order to cut recoil down, I was wondering if anyone knows if I went with a Remington factory load in 225 grain if it would have enough ft/lbs of energy to take a deer at 100 yds. and do it humanely? Any input would be greately appreciated as my 10 year old son would be shooting it.

Keep the range down to about 50yds and it might work out ok, but stretching this load
to 100yds makes for a pretty anemic terminal ballistics.
