No.

I have used mine on two yotes, and have had to put more than one round into them.

I will not use my 17 hmr for yotes again. Does not have enough penitration. I have gone back to my 22-250 for yodle dogs.

There is a new 20 grn XTP type bullet for the 17hmr that should work a bit better. It offers a bit more penitration than the more explosive varmint bullets that weigh 17 grns.

Would I say it's a "good" choice for yotes, no I wouldn't. It will work though as long as you pay attention to range and shot placement. I personally think a 22 mag would be better, or some sort of centerfire would be better yet.

The 17 was designed for small varmints like ground squirells and the such. I have heard reports of big woodchucks shaking off a shot from one these at longer ranges. If your going to use it, try the 20grn XTPs, since that is what they were designed for.

If you are a master at shot placement maybe but I wouldnt use anything less than a 22 mag preferably a .223 or .243 JMHO

Who makes those 20 grain bullets anyway? Is it Hornaday?

Too small.

I've used it on prairie dogs and at much beyond 75 yds, they sometimes make it back to their holes.

It is accurate, just not enough power. Or maybe the velocity has dropped off and the bullet isn't expanding as rapidly as before. I haven't taken the time to look for exit holes on the longer range ones. Close range, it is farely obvious that the bullet is doing it's job.

Smokin Joe...Those must be some tough dogs! I've shot some groundhogs at 100-125 yards and they aren't doing much moving.

I still think the 17 is too small for yotes.

just an overall average. we shot alot, but if it got much farther than that, we used our larger centerfires. We've taken on out near 250. But I wouldn't sugest trying.

17 HMR might be a little small for yotes... I would consider a 17 remington or 204 ruger if you are worried about pelts... Although if you get the right load the .223 or 22-250 should be fine.
