Default 20ga or 12 ga slug barrels

I have an encore and I am thinking about getting a slug barrel for it can anyone give feedback about the 20 ga. vs 12 ga. on the encore or would I be better off getting a deluxe ultra slug by H&R.

I'm baised , since I love my H&R , everyone I know who gets one is the same way. I have the 12ga Ultra Deluxe , dont even take my rifles to PA anymore. If you do decide on the H&R they like Lightfield Hybrid exp 2 3/4 slugs.

I can't think of any reason in the world to get a 20gr barrel unless you want less recoil. I had all these guys from Ohio tell me that 20ga is all they use there. I asked why. They said it was flatter and killed better. So we did a quick comparison of bullistics. Yea, they may be .2" flatter at 100, but 12ga has 500ft/lbs more energy with a projectile much bigger/heavier. They were a little surprised.

I would really suggest going with the 20 gauge. I also have an H&R... It is in 20. I have killed more deer with that gun than all my others combined. I use the lightfield sabots and feel comfortable taking a shot out to 125+ yards. I have killed three deer at more than 100 with it. I see no need to purchase the 12 gauge, the 20 is more than enough and shoots flatter.

Ballistics of the 20 gauge lightfield slugs:

2 3/4 inch, 7/8 ounce

drop at 125 yards = 3.9 inches

muzzle velocity = 1475 ft/sec

muzzle energy = 1850 ft/lb

By the way I forgt to mention I have both the Encore and H&R... My H&R is actually a little more accurate from bench and I find myself extremely more accurate with it from my stand because I have the bull barrel model. It weighs over ten pounds though, so if I were going to hike a significant distance it might be a problem.
