Default What kind of Choke should I use?

I was wondering. I have been shooting a Remington 870 express magnum shotgun and I am using the modified choke to shoot doves. I have had other people tell me that I should shoot a Full Choke when dove hunting. However, I have been pretty accurate when shooting with the modified. Should I change to a full choke or stay with my modified. You tell me!

If it ain't broke don't fix it. If it does break, well it needed fixing anyways. Your modified choke will work fine. Especially since your happy with how the gun shoots now.

welcome nimzy, what you need to do is buy you an aftermarket choke called gobblin thunder in x-tra full, just kiddin, the only reason i could see to changing to full is if the birds are futher off, if your killing w/mod, like pharaoh said why change?

Did you pattern YOUR shotgun with YOUR ammo, and YOUR chokes????? That's the only way you will REALLY know what one patterns best.

Pattern them at different ranges, and choose the one that patterns best for you at the ranges most of your shots are at!!

DM, don't think he asked how a Full or modified would pattern, but what would be the most effective for doves. As long as it patterns the way intended, its independent of effectiveness.

To answer, I can't see moving to a full choke. I use modified myself. Unless your birds are really getting away from you. I can see you really messing up some breasts.

Just as a little note, between this season and last I somehow forget where I had placed my modified choke. So I had to chose between full and IC. I used the IC this entire dove season so far and have not had any real problems. I wished to have the mod at times. But never even considered a full, cause in my opinion it ruins every bird that you get a close shot on. So if I were you I would definitely stay with the mod. Take it easy.

I been shooting doves since I can remember, and the only time I used a full choke was 3 years ago when doves were flying extremely high.

On the other hand I usually use modified or IC chokes when dove hunting.
