Default Gun Safe

Anyone have any suggestions on a good gun safe that is affordable. I for sure want one that is fire resistant. Any tips on buying one used? Thanks

Sportsmens Steel Safe (Long Beach/Compton, CA??) has some of the less expensive models and they are fire rated....by them.

Some folks say fire rating (I suppose nothing is fire proof) a gun safe dictates that you have fireproofing stuff (ceramic maybe???) on all sides, roof, floor and door. My Sportsmans safe has it only in the sides, not the door. I suggest you make sure the safe has a UL listing regarding the fire rating, not just what the maker/vendor says.

This company: http://www.hallsafe.com/ makes some of the best safes around, IMHO.

If you buy a used one, make sure to check out that particular model on the company website regarding the fire rating. Maybe the seller even has the paperwork from it and you can read the UL listing from there.

One thing to look for is air gaps when the door is shut. If there are air gaps (door rattles), there will be gaps for fire/heat to get in also.

I purchased a safe back in the spring and after doing a lot of shopping around, I ended up getting a Cannon Safe. It has a lifetime warranty for break in, attempted break in, flood, or fire damage. If it can't be repaired, they'll replace it at no cost, and that includes shipping... And they're the only ones with a zero cost warranty.

Sorry the pic's small... I bought the AE22, which came with an electronic keypad and dehumidifier for $800 plus tax. I found my best price on eBay (the "buy it now" option) and the safe dealer matched it. Got a killer deal.

After taking a quick look at eBay, I see that they have one identical to mine under the "buy it now" option for $725 plus shipping. Can't beat that price.
