I'm going to a range tomorrow for the first time in a number of years and I have a few questions.
First, I'm going to be trying out a couple new loads for my Sako 75 300WM. I've used the same load for many years with this gun; 60grs IMR 4320/150gr Nosler Partition which gives me 1/2MOA at 100m (or less sometimes). The 2 new loads are the same but a little hotter; 62 and 64grs. How long should I be waiting in between shots to observe the best/most accurate results? The barrel gets hot pretty darn quick and can take a long time to cool down and I'll be making a 5 shot group with each new load after sighting in with the previously tested load (probably 6 shots to do this).
Second, if you test your gun/load in warmer weather through a hot and fouled barell how does the bullet behave differently through a sub-zero, clean barrel? Slower, I imagine, but what else?
Lastly, I've always used these synthetic rifle rests (made by Mullett, or something like that). Never used sand bags before. Would it be worth my while to invest in leather sand bags to take to the range?
Any other range tips/advice is appreciated since I'm pretty unfamiliar with that setting. Thanks!
in my experience if a rifle is sighted-in in warm weather when shot in cold weather it is slower& shoot low about 1/2" or so. as far as what sandbags are better i like the leather ones they seem to be more stable and they hold thier form better i prefer the caldwell bags and rests from midway.
