Default Winchester Model 12 ( old )

I have a dilemma , I was left my grandfathers model 12 that is older than me ( 28 ) and is basically flawless. It's a beautiful gun , and Im not sure if I want to take it in the woods. My dad has told me this gun hasnt even seen 10 shells through it. The inside of the barrel practically sparkles and I cant even find one sratch/mark on it. So guys, would you hunt with this gun , or leave it in the safe ?

Put a scratch in it! Guns like that are made for hunting, plain and simple. Besides, nodel 12's don't really hold any collector value. What value it has is sentimental. And wouldn't you be proud to take your grandpas shotgun hunting with you?

I agree. Take her in the woods and expose her to the world.

That is one of the best pump action shotguns ever made, you wont hurt it hunting with it and contrary to believe they have very good resale value

I'm going to go against the grain on this one. If its in that kind of shape and its a 28ga, it has a LOT of collector value. I've been looking at them to finish out my collection of 12's, but one in that kind of shape will run you close to 3 grand around here. I'd definatley keep it because of the sentimental value, but I wouldn't take a chance on banging it up in the field. just my .02.

Like T/C i have a collection of win. Mod. 12's. They are fantastic pieces of gear!!

My advice would be - use it - but don't abuse it!!!!! I still use my dad's mod. 12 that was made in 1938.
Fits like a glove and shoots like billy-be-danged!! But still looks good as new.

Be very proud of it and take care of it!! By the way what gauge

Good hunting!!

Actually T/C, I belive he was saying HE'S 28. The model 12's, the older ones at leats, were all 12 gauge. If I'm not mistaken.

Sorry guys, I guess I took that the wrong way. Thanks for clearing that up for me. In the case its a 12ga, its definately a workhorse and should be used.
