Default custom 30.06

I'm looking at having a custom 30.06 built (Rifles Inc.) but is there an advantage of the 30.06 ackley improved over the 30.06 springfield? I'm planning on using this gun for whitetail, black bear, moose and elk. Thanks.

Sounds pricy but nice! I think it would payoff if you had a bit more barrel length... reloading buffs set me straight, but I think the improved does best with slower powders.

I'm sure the Ackley improved is a fine round. But when was the last time you saw it at wal-mart? If you are in a bind for ammo, your just SOL. The availability of the springfield would out way any performance gain IMHO.

You can use regular 30-06 ammo in it. Accuracy may not be what the AI does but it will work. A longer barrel works better with AI's generally but probably not much gain in the 06. I would leave it a 24"

There is a slight ballistic advantage with the AI vs the standard round, particularly with heavy charges of slow powders with heavy bullets (200 grainers on up).

However, NO rifle chambered for a wildcat has as much resale value as a rifle chambered for a standard factory round. This might be of no consequence right now, but it might be later.

Not quite! A correctly made .30/'06 AI will fire factory ammo just fine. The headspacing of the two is the same. A hundred feet per second or so are lost due to the energy required to fireform the brass to the fatter shoulder shape, but that's the only effect.

Custom built guns are costly and you never get full valve of what you paid unless someone else has the same appreation for the rifle that was built for you. I.M.H.O.

I would personnally still with the Springfield more varied rounds to use
