Default 338-378 weatherby

doesn anybody use this riffle for elk hunting for lond distance shots. or the 30-378. never shot either of the two but own a 300 weatherby and love it. never had a problem with the know down power of it on an elk. just wondering about these other 2 calibers. just curious.

I would keep the .300. The other two are not fun to shoot IMO. Without a brake they kick the snot out of you, and with a brake you P.O. everyone with in 100ft.
There are other calibers that work very well also without the side effects.

I was going to get a 30-378, but the cost of brass made me change my mind. Its just too expensive. I have been slobbering over the 338 ultra mag.

I know a crazy dude in Sturgis SD who uses the 30-378 for 700 yard prarie dog shooting. The poor guy must have no feelings above the waste. That rifle has some steep recoil. I shot one once and I do mean ONCE.[:@]

I have a buddy who uses the 338-378 for big bears. At almost 90 dollars a box it is defineately not cheap to shoot. It is a heck of a flat shooter though, and hits like a ton of bricks.

I have a friend who has a Weatherby Mark V Accumark .338-378 Wby. Mag. who pushes a 275 gr. Swift A-Frame 3,088 f/s 5,822 ft/lb, and obtains just under 1.00" three shot groups at 100 yds. It does a nice job on elk. Good luck.
