Default Winchester Model 70

Can anyone offer some insite into the Winchester Model 70, 7mm Remington Magnum. The model I was looking at was a black synthetic if that matters. Does anyone own one and what do you think?

Pros:

Great Trigger
Great Safety and serviceable bolt
Some models have great handling qualities ie Featherweight

Cons:

Spotty Quality
Accuracy is not as consistent as in 700's and 77's
Extractor made of cast metal not spring steel
Weigh more then a corresponding Remington or Ruger Rifle

I have purchased 3 in the last 2 years ironically the best one of the three was a CRPF in 7WSM and was the cheapest.

I see no benefit to CRF unless its a dangerous game situation. Just a selling point for Winchester nothing more and nothing less.

I have a Winchester Black Shadow in 7MM RM. After getting the trigger lightened, I am getting really close to 1" groups! I love it, and at the price, it is about as good as it gets!
They have discontinued the Black Shadow in favor of the new Super Shadow. I think it is priced a little more than the Black Shadow, but it has the newly redesigned extractor.
I too see no big deal in the CRPF! Then again, there was no big deal in the claw extractor, except in the case of dangerous game hunting! Remington, and most other manufacturers never had a "claw extractor" to begin with!

I was also looking at the 70 Super Shadow in the .223

Anyone tell me how they like the 3 position safety?

The three position safety has been around a long time on the M70. It is as good, or better than any other safety!
With the exception of the Savage, I think that the Winchesters are the best gun for the money that you can buy! I just like the looks, and feel of the Winchester, over the Savage, so I don't mind paying a little more!

I bought a Black Shadow at the end of last year's deer season and just recently got my Zeiss Conquest mounted. I also had the trigger lightened a bit. This is my first magnum rifle and I am very pleased with it. Plus, the all matte black finish of the rifle and scope looks smokin'.

How is it better than any other safety? when the newer remington 700's just have a normal 2 position and can do all that 3 pos safety can do. ( Rotate bolt on safety )

Advantages of the Winchester safety is the bolt is locked in rearward position..move to middle and safety is still on but you can unload and load the gun. The wing safety is also faster to ease on or off.
