Default 17Cal Dewey Rod

Hey, going to get me a good cleaning rod for my 204ruger. I am using a outers rod now, that is way too tight. If I got a 17 cal rod, would it be fine for a 22 also? Are they stiff enough. Figured I could get away with one for all my small calibers

Bigcountry, I"™m also looking at getting Dewey 17 Cal, just waiting for our local sporting good store to get there shipment. The only concern I have is they come at 36" long and I find it to be very long for such a small diameter rod. Hopefully it will be stiff enough as you mentioned. I guess I"™ll have to test it out when I get it.

Hi BC & trailer:

I use the Dewey 36" .17 for my .204 and it works like a charm. I have a Ruger Compact, with a 20" barrel. I have not had any problems with flexibility. I ordered mine from Midway, and it came with a jag taped to the rod that has to be .20, I can't imagine you could fit the included jag through a .17 with a patch on it. It is the only one-piece rod I could find, but works very well. The only problem I have had is cutting patches small enough to fit down the bore. The best results I have had were from Tipton .35 cal/20 guage patches cut into quarters.

Good luck.

CE

P.S. I don't think the Dewey rod would work for .22. The threads for the jags are not compatible. You might be able to fit a "loop" tip for .17 and use a larger patch, but that wouldn't be my choice.

Dewey,
It should do just fine.
You won't be pushing it to hard anyway.

Here is the newest 17 cal.
