Default 1st hunting rifle?

I am truly interested in obtaining a Thompson Encore Rifle for my 1st hunting set up. I find it apealing that I can chang the barel to sute diferint situations. I do not think that I would have anny problems having only one shot, every time I beagin to squeas the triger I still hear my D.I. saying (one shot, one kill)!!!!!!!

Back to my question. does anny one have anny expereance with the Encore line of rifles, and what are your thoughs?

Thanks in advance for the replies!

they are certainly very popular rifles, I admit Ive wanted one myself for a few years. The single shot doesnt really bother me that either, your only supposed to take one anyway besides when the adrenilines pumping you d be surprised how fast you can reload!!!! If its what you want, then Id get it.

I have a T/C Encore and find it handles very nice. Some guy like how the rifle handle and other don"t like it at all. It all depends on the individual....This rifle is 4" to 5" shorter then most bolt actions......The advantage of being able to get different barrels is definitely a plus for this rifle. I have a custom barrel for mine and I"m very impressed with the quality of the barrel.....The only flaw for me on this rifle is that there is not enough space between the hammer and the eye pieces of my scope. Ended up getting a hammer spur extension so I could pull the hammer back from the side and it"s still not perfect. Check this Web site www.virginvalleyguns.com for some ideas on the list of calibers availably for this rifle....

Have not owned a Thompson, but have ordered in a fair number for customers and have handled and fired them. They are fine for just about any hunt. I have never had a complaint from anyone who's purchased one. I always worried about the hinge loosening up, especially with hot, hi-power cartridges, but again, I have heard no complaints. On most expensive single shot rifles, that are not bolt rifles, the action is some sort of falling block mechanism that is much stronger then is any hinge.

Ok thank you all for the replies, and for the link to vergin vally guns!

I think that I will go with a Encore! Now all I nead to do is deside on a caliber. For now all I plan on hunting is dear and howgs. I am thinking of 7mm08 but stil have not desided. I was thinking that this caliber would also let me take anything in Texas, but was not for shere.

The extent of my sooting consists of former military 223 wich i alredy have, and friendly long range comp, with 308. I am looking for a new caliber to ad to the safe!

Agine anny help is gratly aprecated, and thaks in advance!
