Default 450 marlin

what can you tell me about this round? i am looking for a short range gun for under/around 100 yards that will hit black bears hard. and maybe a deer hear and there.

the rifle i am looking at is a marlin 1895M what do you think the price would be on this rifle??

if anyone uses this round i would like to hear what you think about it. good/bad.

Its basically a higher pressure 45-70 Govt in a belted case to prevent it from being loaded into an old trapdoor Springfield or something. If you reload you would be better off going with the 45-70 since it is far more versatile.

i looked at them last year for a boar hunt . if i remeber right they were like 500$and change.guy told me it would do anything the 45/70 would do . said it would handle any animal in north america out to around 150 yards then it starts to drop like a brick.i would probably still go with the 45/70 it's been around forever and has way more loading's from what i understand

I would go with a 45/70 . frizz is right it is more versatile then the .450 . If you dont handload the buffalo bore or garrett rounds will rock your world. or you can use all the way down to cowboy loads . The remington rounds are very lite recoil and shoot 405 gr. bullet. good for starting out. PMC makes good rounds with lots of punch (300 gr.). Have fun with it!!

There just aren't many loads for the 450 Marlin out there. The only difference between the two (45-70) is the belt. Loads can be found that will equal the performance of the factory 450 Marlin loads. I would get the Marlin, but in the 45-70 and find some powerful loads if thats what you want.

Killer243-----Everyone needs a Big-Bore. A friend of mine used his 450 Marlin last year for his elk hunt. The big ole cow dropped in her tracks--"as if hit by the hammer of Thor !!" I don't know what is a good price on that Marlin. Go to www.marlinowners.com & post it there. I'm with you on the non interest on the 45/70. I got a 444 as my Big-Bore this past summer. Plan on using it this deer season. Good Luck & Good Hunting.

bob thanks. so everyone knows i don't feel anything is wrong with the 45-70 i just don't want one. i also don't want a 30-06. i don't know why i just don't and i would never be happy with the two calibers. however i do like the looks of the 450. what are the 480 Ruger / 475 Linebaugh like compared to a 450??

thanks
